# Lexique 3.83 — attribution and adapted puzzle data

Source: **Lexique 3.83**, by **Boris New, Christophe Pallier and contributors**, including Ronald Peereman, Sophie Dufour and Christian Lachaud. Source project: https://lexique.org/ ; source archive: https://lexique.org/databases/Lexique383/Lexique383.zip .

Lexique's bundled `README-Lexique.txt` identifies the database licence as **Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0)**. The unchanged upstream README is supplied alongside this file. Full licence: [LICENSE-CC-BY-SA4.0.txt](LICENSE-CC-BY-SA4.0.txt), also https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ . The material is provided without warranties as stated in the licence. No endorsement by the source authors is implied.

`letter-puzzles.json` is an **adaptation by Dictée en ligne**, distributed under **CC BY-SA 4.0**. Changes: selected grammatical categories; omitted short, compound and non-Latin-normalizable forms; grouped accent/case-equivalent spellings; selected thirty seven-letter sets with one required letter; added goal words, review metadata and explicit editorial exclusions. The source frequencies guide familiarity screening; they do not measure a player's knowledge. Selection files, exclusions and the derived audit are also offered under CC BY-SA 4.0.

`adjacent-puzzles.json` is also an adaptation under **CC BY-SA 4.0**. It uses the same reviewed source, selects noun/adjective/infinitive entries of 4–16 letters, groups equivalent spellings, applies documented exclusions, and adds deterministic 4×4 boards with one valid adjacent-cell path per accepted word. Frequency-based goal candidates are suggestions, not editorial approval. Its exclusions and derived audit share this licence.

This notice applies to the adapted lexical data. Application logic is separately authored; this notice does not purport to change the licence of unrelated repository files.

Source archive and TSV fingerprints, retrieval timestamp and upstream metadata reference: [source.json](source.json). The TSV MD5 matches the OpenLexicon metadata at commit `9009f488f664536940965453c127f43cf18b84a4`. The complete 27 MB archive is not bundled in the application; the generator verifies it before use.
